Below are some frequently asked questions.

No previous acting experience

I have no experience but am interested in coming to your classes, which session is most suited to me?

It is not necessary to have any previous experience before coming to a class, you just need to have a desire to learn, participate and grow as a human being. Each individual is different therefore there are different classes to suit your needs. The weekly Exploring the Essentials classes are ideal if you want to learn the essential skills of acting in a supportive team environment where you can partake in group discussions and exercises which creates a rounded and dynamic learning experience. If you would prefer to work towards a personal goal or develop a specific piece of work in a private environment, then an Individual Intensive session is best for you. Head to the Classes menu tab for more details.

Classes for Under 18's

I'm interested in your classes for my teenage son/daughter, do you offer classes for under 18's?

Generally all classes are more suited to students over the age of 18. This is because the content of some of the text and the discussions which can occur as a result can be unsuitable for younger actors. In extreme cases a student under 18yrs may be suitable if they uphold a high level of commitment to the art and a mature and open attitude. Alternatively a private one-on-one class might be more appropriate. The best place to start is to have your teen contact me for an informal chat about their individual goals and we can take it from there.

Auditioning for Drama Schools

I'm serious about auditioning for drama schools this year. What experience do you have with training and working with actors who are auditioning for major drama schools?

That's fantastic. I enjoy working with actors who are serious about working towards their goal of auditioning for drama school. Towards the end of the year my calendar fills up quickly with dedicated students engaging in one-on-one private classes. In both 2009 and 2010 I had students audition for leading drama schools around the country. Johann Silva was accepted into QUT Acting Course, Matthew Pearce into NIDA's Acting Course, Bill Thompson into WAAPA's Acting Course and David Ooch into WAAPA's Musical Theatre Course. This shows how the combination of commitment and hard work in preparing your audition pieces in a one-on-one private class can have such a successful impact. This year I have introduced the Audition Preparation package of 3 x 1 hour one-on-one classes at a discounted cost, specifically designed for working on audition monologues.

Acceptance to Gareth Harris classes

Do I need to audition for your classes?

No there is no 'audition' process. If we have not met before, I like to have an informal chat over the phone to discuss your goals and what you would like to achieve by coming to class. As spaces are limited, especially in the group Exploring the Essentials sessions, I like to ensure everyone in the class is committed to learning and is in the right class for their individual needs.

Individual Intensives vs Audition Preparation classes

What is the difference between your Individual Intensives and your Audition Preparation classes?

The Audition Preparation sessions are designed for working on NIDA, WAAPA, VCA, QUT, etc approved audition monologue pieces only. For all other one-on-one private class requirements, Individual Intensives are most suitable.

NIDA Auditions

I need some help picking my pieces for my NIDA audition, what advice can you give me?

Download the NIDA Audition Monologues PDF and read through all the pieces. Pick your top preferences and book an Individual Intensive session where we can discuss and briefly work on the pieces you have selected and I can suggest additional or alternative monologues if necessary. You can then book a set of 3 Audition Preparation classes when you know your pieces, have read the play they are from and know all the lines.
