EXPLORING THE ESSENTIALS
These sessions are for anyone who is serious about learning and serious about improving their skill levels. Actors will become more confident as professionals and human beings. We go back to basics with in-depth script analysis and exercises from the great teachers such as Stella Adler, Uta Hagen and Sanford Meisner. If you are new to acting you need these skills; if you have experience then you need to revisit these skills and practice, practice, practice. Keeping each class to 10 students gives you the opportunity to be actively involved in group discussions and have quality time to engage and learn these essential skills within a supportive group environment.
Skills you will develop:
- Script analysis and how to connect with and interpret your text
-Actioning/Transitive Verbs (Why am I saying what I'm saying?)
-Objectives and the use of Verbs
-How to explore and develop internal monologues
-Who, where, when, why, what and HOW? - Public Solitude (A vital and often neglected skill)
- Listening (Closely linked to Public Solitude)
- Concentration (Closely related to listening)
- Simple Improvisation (Text and non text based)
At the start of each term, each student will receive a USB Memory Stick full of invaluable information to assist their work in class.
This includes:
- relaxation, breathing and diction exercises
- reading suggestions – plays, acting techniques, health books, etc
- videos and articles of interest
- space for individual research throughout the term so all information is stored together
Class duration: 2 hour classes for 10 weeks, Monday nights at both 6pm and 8pm.

Cost: $415 per 10 week term.
INDIVIDUAL INTENSIVES
Gareth specialises in private one-on-one classes to assist with auditions for film, TV and ensembles. These hour long sessions are perfect for the actor who wants to work on a specific piece, improve or maintain their skills or engage in additional training alongside other study.
Where?: One-on-one classes are usually held in the evening in a space in Albion, exact details can be finalised upon booking.
Cost: $65 per hour session.
AUDITION PREPARATION
Serious about auditioning for drama school? This discounted set of 3 x one hour private sessions are designed for the actor who’s goal is to audition for NIDA, WAAPA, VCA, QUT or other national or international schools. We will work together over the 3 sessions on your chosen monologues to develop and explore the text, techniques and skills to ensure you are ready for your audition.
What you’ll gain:
Training from a fellow actor and teacher who has experience with the audition process and the level of work, practice and commitment required for auditioning for these levels of tertiary study. In only two attempts (2009, 2010) Gareth assisted five students to get into national and international drama schools. Matthew Pearce into NIDA, Steff Barney into Mountview Acadamy of Peforming Arts (London) Bill Thompson and David Ouch into WAAPA and Johann Silva into QUT.
These classes are held from October each year, one night per week and are filled on a ‘first- in, first-dressed’ basis. e.g. every Tuesday night with 4 hour long spaces from 4pm-8pm available. More details available closer to the date.
Cost: $175 for 3 x 1 hour one on one classes *SAVE $20*.
Subsequent classes can be arranged at $65ea or another 3 at $175.
Prior to booking these classes, please ensure you have chosen your pieces, read the play and all lines are learnt.
TV COMMERCIAL CASTING ESSENTIALS
These classes are designed for beginners, models and extras who wish to refine their commercial casting and general acting skills. Audition technique sessions are filmed and reviewed with the class; participants are given their own tape to monitor and reflect on their progress.
Skills you will develop include:
- Gareth's 10 rules of improv (Vital for TVC, personal and professional development)
- Sight reading (How to read a script you have never seen before)
- Basic voice (Tips for improving confidence and presentation)
- Script analysis (How to interpret what the casting director wants)
- Audition technique (How to be at your best, present yourself and feel confident)

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Similar to the ‘Individual Intensives’ private classes, these sessions are designed for corporate or professional development. Develop skills to assist you with your presentations and addressing colleagues or clients with clarity and confidence.

Cost: $80 per hour session.
